There's only so many times you can shoot yourself in the foot so many times and expect to win. And it was just a few too many times for Virginia Tech.
The Hokies had four interceptions, missed two field goals and had a touchdown called back on a penalty in a 13-10 loss. Virginia Tech has no one to blame but itself.
The Blue Devils gave the Hokies ample opportunity to win. Duke was 0-11 on third down and didn't complete a pass in the second half, not to mention throwing four interceptions themselves.
But again, Virginia Tech couldn't make anything happen in and around the red zone. The Hokies moved the ball well before that, outgaining the Blue Devils 387-198. But Virginia Tech also left six points on the board with a pair of missed field goals by senior kicker Cody Journell and had a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver D.J. Coles negated on an illegal shift penalty.
What a way to squander three interceptions by true freshman Kendall Fuller, who's five total interceptions now give him the lead in the country.
It's certainly not over for the Hokies. If they win out the rest of way, they'll still be the Coastal Division champs. But there's still work to be done, even after a bye week.
